Beauty and the Beast is “a tale as old as Stockholm Syndrome.”
As Honest Trailers points out, there are actually a lot of questionable things in the beloved 1991 Disney film. Among the issues:
— The film teaches you its what’s on the inside that counts, but it also helps if you are so rich you have a castle.
— Belle rejects Gaston, a “violent, controlling, bad-mannered, hairy dude who imprisons her dad” … to end up with a”violent, controlling, bad-mannered, hairy dude who imprisons her dad.”
— It actually has a pretty similar plot to Silence of the Lambs, which beat Beauty for best picture at the Oscars.
And true to Honest Trailer tradition, there’s a strong musical element here, with classics like “The Toxic Relationship Song,” which looks at how the romance between Belle and the Beast isn’t all that great.
