Ben Affleck is stepping back in time for his next role.
The actor, who will be playing former CIA agent Tony Mendez in his new film Argo, was photographed on the movie’s L.A. set in full 70s garb. For the character, Affleck sports a longer, shaggy hairstyle and was wearing a period-perfect wide-lapel shirt and sports coat.

The film, which follows the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis and the CIA’s secret plan to smuggle six American diplomats out of the country by disguising them as a Canadian film crew (in cooperation with the Canadian government), is set for release in 2012.

Affleck, who is also directing (his third feature-film foray–last year’s The Town garnered the actor-diretor some awards season buzz), stars alongside Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Michael Parks, Alan Arkin and Kyle Chandler.
