A Perfect Day - H 2014
Fernando MarreroMADRID — Benicio Del Toro, Olga Kurylenko and Tim Robbins will head an all-star cast in Fernando Leon’s much-anticipated next feature A Perfect Day, set to be one of the hottest titles in Spain this year.
Reposado and Mediapro will produce the war zone-set film in collaboration with Spanish pubcaster TVE, with WestEnd Films handling international sales. Shooting starts next week in southern Spain.
Well-liked Spanish director Leon — whose Mondays in the Sun (starring Javier Bardem as an unemployed Spaniard), Barrio and Princesses earned him critical acclaim on the international festival circuit — rounds out the cast with Melanie Thierry and Feja Stukan.

In the film, a group of aid workers tries to remove a cadaver from a well in a conflict zone. Somebody threw it into the well to spoil the water, so people won’t drink it. But the simplest task becomes an impossible mission where the real enemy could be irrationality itself. The workers cross the frenzied war landscape trying to fix the problem, like guinea pigs in a maze.
The screenplay is based on the novel Dejarse Llover (Let It Rain) by Paula Farias, a writer and doctor familiar with humanitarian emergency work through her involvement with Doctors Without Borders since 1999. The director also drew upon his own experience as a documentary filmmaker who has worked with aid workers in conflicts.
