BERLIN – Berlin Film Festival regular Isabella Rossellini will return to the German capital next year to present her latest experimental work as a director: the short film series Mammas, which will screen in Berlin’s Forum Expanded program.
Mammas follows up on Rossellini’s Green Porno project, which also screened in Berlin. In the new series, the Oscar-nominated actress again takes on the roles of several animal creatures. With Green Porno the subject was animal sexual behavior. In Mammas, the short films explore the maternal instincts of various animal species.
Other highlights of this year’s Forum Expanded program, which focuses on experimental cinema, includes the documentary Helio Oiticica, about the late Brazilian visual artist, directed by his nephew, and curator of his artistic estate, Cesar Oiticica Filho; and Once Every Day, a new work from New York avant-garde playwright, director and designer Richard Foreman.
In addition to screening various films, the Forum Expanded program will include several art exhibits and installations at locations around Berlin. The full Forum Expanded program will be announced early next year.
The 63rd Berlin International Film Festival runs Feb. 7-17, 2013.
