Alec Baldwin is set to star in Supercell, an epic disaster action movie and the first film greenlit under a first look deal between Highland Film Group and newly-launched Short Porch Pictures.
Herbert James Winterstern will direct Supercell from a script he wrote with Anna Elizabeth James. The film will start principal photography in 2021 on location in Montana and Georgia.
Supercell follows William, a good-hearted teenager wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps, the legendary storm chaser Bill Brody killed by a massive super tornado. His father’s legacy has now been turned into a storm-chasing tourist business, run by the greedy and reckless Zane Rogers, played by Alec Baldwin.
William finds himself used as the main attraction to lead a group of unsuspecting adventurers deep into the eye of the most dangerous supercell ever seen. Supercell is financed by Ryan Donnell Smith and Emily Salveson’s Streamline Global.
Ryan Winterstern, Nathan Klingher and Ryan Donnell Smith are producing, with Anjul Nigam executive producing. This will be the second film produced under the Short Porch Pictures banner for Winterstern and Klingher after recently wrapping production on One Way, starring Colson Baker, Kevin Bacon, Storm Reid, and Travis Fimmel.
Supercell will be introduced to buyers at the virtual European Film Market. Highland Film Group is repping the international rights, while CAA Media Finance is handling the domestic distribution rights.
