Love Is Strange Berlin Film Festival - H 2014
International buyers continue to warm to Love Is Strange, Ira Sachs‘ gay marriage drama starring John Lithgow and Alfred Molina.
Fortissimo Films closed multiple territory deals for Love Is Strange in the wake of Berlin’s European Film Market, including ones for Spain (Golem), Italy (Koch Media) and Portugal (Midas Film). This follows several deals following Love Is Strange‘s world premiere in Sundance last month, which saw Fortissimo lock down agreements with Altitude Films for the U.K., Pretty Pictures for France, Wild Bunch for Benelux and Alpha Filmes for Brazil, among many others.

Fortissimo had a solid EFM, closing several territories for Donovan Marsh’s South African crime drama iNumber Number, with Pandastorm in Germany, KlockWorx in Japan, Zylo in France and IRIP for Iran; and Linsanity, Evan Leong‘s documentary on Chinese basketball sensation Jeremy Lin, continuing to sell widely, with new deals for Australia (Umbrella), Canada (Kinosmith), Spain (Sogecine – Canal+) and Sweden (UR).
Other strong sellers for Fortissimo included Gina Kim‘s drama Final Recipe – produced by and starring Michelle Yeoh; Dutch psychological drama Borgman; the documentary Foodies; Richie Mehta’s Siddharth; the Hong Kong horror title Rigor Mortis from first-time director Juno Mak and Djinn, billed as the first-ever horror title made in the Arab Emirates, from veteran filmmaker Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
