Out of Nature, a wry feature about middle-aged ambivalence from Norwegian director Ole Giaever, has won the Europa Cinemas Prize at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival.
Giaever wrote, directed and stars in the film as a dissatisfied office worker who goes on an eventful hike that turns into a journey of the soul.

“With a wry Scandinavian sense of humor, Out of Nature is a well-made and entertaining film about man’s contemporary anxieties and concerns — something of a universal theme today,” the Europa Cinemas jury said in a statement. “The central character is bored with his job, has a problematic relationship with himself and is distant from his wife and son. He escapes into the mountains for a weekend of contemplation and adventures. The film’s success will certainly inspire young filmmakers.”

Europa Cinemas, an association of exhibitors that represents nearly 1,000 art house cinemas in 42 countries across Europe, gives its annual honor to a film screening at the Berlin festival that shows both artistic achievement and commercial potential.
Out of Nature will receive promotional support from Europa Cinemas for its theatrical rollout. NDM International is handling world sales on the film.
