Picture Tree International is laughing all the way to the bank, as the German sales outfit closed multiple deals for its slate of local-language comedies at Berlin’s European Film Market.
Suck Me Shakespeer 3, the final film in Bora Dagtekin’s hit trilogy, sold to Russia (Voxell), Hungary (Big Bang Media) and to the Czech and Slovak Republic (Cinemart) among other deals.
Action-comedy Big Bang Media also grabbed Hungarian rights for action comedy Hot Dog, which features German stars Til Schweiger and Matthias Schweighofer. The title pre-sold at AFM across multiple territories including with China (S&C Pictures), Japan (New Select) and Spain (Selecta Vision).
Welcome to Germany, a comedy that finds the funny in the recent refugee crisis, closed an additional two territories —to Cineama for Italy and Cote-Quest for Africa — adding to the more than 30 countries that have already licensed the film.
Other Picture Tree titles generating interest at the EFM were Teenosaurus Rex, a teen-focused comedy, which S&C Pictures nabbed for China, Canal Plus took for Poland and Cinemart acquired for the Czech and Slovak Republics; and Wolfgang Petersen’s heist comedy Four Against The Bank, which was picked up by Swift Productions for France.
