Saban Films has acquired U.S. rights to action comedy Skiptrace, starring Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville.
Fan Bingbing also stars in the film, which is directed by The Legend of Hercules helmer Renny Harlin.
In Skiptrace, Chan plays a Hong Kong detective who has been tracking a dangerous crime boss for more than a decade. When his goddaughter (Fan) gets into trouble with the crime syndicate, he comes to the rescue and teams up with a fast-talking American gambler (Knoxville) on a wild adventure.
Saban plans to open the pic theatrically in the third quarter of 2016.
“Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville are both international sensations, and Renny Harlin’s smart yet fun approach to this big-budget action film brings a raucous force to the screen,” Saban Films president Bill Bromiley said Thursday in a statement.
Talent International Films and Dasym Media produced Skiptrace along with Chan, Esmond Ren, Charlie Coker, Damien Saccani and David Gerson. It was co-financed and co-presented by Shanghai New Culture Media Group, Talent International and Dasym Media. Bloom is handling international sales.
The deal was negotiated on behalf of Saban Films by Bromiley and Ness Saban, while WME repped the filmmakers.
