Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has signed on to star, alongside Anjelica Huston, in the upcoming World War II drama Waiting for Anya, an adaptation of the book by War Horse author Michael Morpurgo.
Schnapp will play Jo, a young shepherd who, together with the widow Horcada (Huston), helps to smuggle Jewish children across the border from southern France into Spain.
Ben Cookson (Almost Married) is directing from a screenplay by Morpurgo and Toby Torlesse. Thomas Kretschmann, Elsa Zylbertsein and Tomas Lemarquis co-star in the pic. Alan Latham is producing for Goldfinch Studios with Phin Glynn for Bad Penny Productions and Daz Spencer-Lovesey co-producing. Executive producers are Kirsty Bell, Victor Glynn and Geoffrey Iles.
Shooting is set to begin on location in France later this year. Goldfinch is launching the project at the European Film Market in Berlin, with 13 Films handling global sales.
