Child’s Pose follows a rich and domineering mother (Luminita Gheorghiu, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) who intervenes to try and prevent her ungrateful son from being sent to jail for manslaughter after he kills a poor child in a driving accident. STORY: ‘Child’s Pose’ Wins Berlin Golden Bear
Overall it was a strong Berlin for Beta, which racked up sales on German sleeper hit Oh Boy from first-timer Jan Ole Gerster, with deals in France (Diaphana), Italy (Academy Two), Benelux (ABC-Cinemien), Greece (Strada Films), Australia/New Zealand (Madman) and Taiwan (Fast Forward).
The German-Norwegian thriller Two Lives sold to Sophie Dulac for France and Nachshon Films for Israel, and German comedies also sold well: Til Schweiger‘s Kokowaah 2 was picked up by Swallow Wings for Taiwan and Marc Rothemund‘s The Girl With Nine Wigs sold to D Productions for Turkey and First Run in South Korea.
Beta also continues to rack up presales for the ambitious period drama The Physician, starring Ben Kingsley, Stellan Skarsgard and Tom Payne, with Prorom taking Romania and Hungary, meaning the Philipp Stoelzl-directed title is now completely sold out in Eastern Europe.
