Bill Murray has offered to pay fans for their damaged property after he allegedly threw their cell phones off the rooftop of Vesuvio restaurant in Carmel, Calif., on Jan. 11. According to multiple reports, the incident occurred after Murray caught the fans snapping pictures of him at the restaurant.
“Mr. Murray admitted to being present and was willing to pay for the damaged property. This was handled as a civil matter between Mr. Murray and our victims,” said Carmel Police Cmdr. Paul Tomasi in an email to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Carmel Police Department told THR they responded to a disturbance call at the restaurant on the night of Jan. 11. Three people claimed Murray took their cell phones and threw two of them over the rooftop. The other cell phone was lost but not damaged.
“Mr. Murray was not on the scene when we arrived; however we contacted a representative for him the following morning,” added Tomasi. “None of the victims wanted to press charges. They just wanted their phones replaced. This was handled as a civil matter between Mr. Murray and our victims.”
