Blackmagic Production Camera - H 2013
Courtesy of BlackmagicBlackmagic Design has released a feature update for its cameras, including its original Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Pocket Cinema Camera and Production Camera 4K.
The company’s CEO Grant Petty appears in a video that the company released on Tuesday, in which he discusses the key upgrades. That includes a new user interface similar in design to the company’s Blackmagic Ursa camera, whose development was announced in April at the NAB Show.
It also adds compressed RAW DNG support for the Production Camera 4K, allowing RAW recording in real time. Blackmagic color grading system DaVinci Resolve version 11, whose public beta software is also now available, supports RAW grading and rendering to final output direct from the RAW camera original files.

Additional new features in the Blackmagic camera update are enhanced lens control support for EF lens mount cameras, as well as a new de-bayer processor that uses algorithms that are already in use in DaVinci Resolve.
“We have been working very hard to incorporate camera feature requests that customers have been sending us,” Petty said. “We are working very hard on more features we want to add into our cameras and you will see more and more of what we have been working on in updates that will be release over the upcoming months.”
The version 1.8 software is available as a free download for existing customers on the company’s website. The public beta version 11 of its DaVinci Resolve color grading system is also available on the web site, free of charge for all Resolve customers. This beta version includes updates in online editing plus trimming, on-set file cloning, new color grading tools, and a collaborative workflow tool set enabling multiple users to work simultaneously on the same timeline.
