Alcon, Titan Partner for New ‘Blade Runner’ Comics and Books

Whether or not androids dream of electric sheep may remain an open question, but now fans of the Blade Runner franchise will have more opportunity to find out. Alcon Media Group and Titan Publishing are partnering for a new line of comics, graphic novels and books based on the classic science-fiction franchise.

The partnership covers both fiction and non-fiction work, with comics and graphic novels set in the world of last year’s Blade Runner 2049 from the Titan Comics imprint being accompanied by what are described as “a variety of publications focused on the visual and technical sides of the production process.”

In a statement, Titan founders Nick Landau and Vivian Cheung said, “We are extremely excited to be publishing Blade Runner comics and illustrated books. The Blade Runner universe has barely been explored; there is so much more there. It’s an honor to be bringing this world to life in new ways for a new audience — and to reveal tales from that universe that you’ve never seen before.”

Outside of a 1982 Marvel comic book adaptation of Ridley Scott’s original movie, this will be the first time Blade Runner has been translated into comics, although Boom! Studios adapted the source material — Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep — in 2009, with an original prequel miniseries released the following year.

Editorial duties will be shared by Titan’s David Manley-Leach and Alcon’s director of publishing Jeff Conner. More information about the line will be released in the coming months.
