Fox’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continued to do big business post-World Cup and is on the verge of surpassing the entire North American run of Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($176.8 million).
New entry Hercules made almost as much at the foreign box office as it did in North America, despite a much smaller footprint (it’s rolling out slowly). It wowed in Russia with $12 million, marking Dwayne Johnson‘s biggest opening ever in that market.

Transformers: Age of Extinction officially crossed the $300 million mark in China, according to Paramount, and is only days away from becoming the first film of 2014 to hit $1 billion globally.
Other noisemakers over the weekend included Chinese nostalgic road-trip movie Continent and South Korean period action film Kundo: Age of the Rampant.
Godzilla — which didn’t make the top 10 chart — impressed in its Japanese debut, grossing $7 million and pushing its total global earnings to nearly $500 million.
