The Perrin family, owners of Chateau Beaucastel in France’s Chateauneuf-du-Pape region, will take over wine production at the Jolie-Pitt’s Chateau Miraval, according to Decantur.
The superstar couple, who raise six children together, signed a three-year lease at the 35-room wine chateau that sits on a 1000-acre plot of land in Correns in May 2008 with the intention of raising their newborn twins there. They have since purchased the estate for approximately $60 million.
Previous owner, French jazz pianist Jacques Loussier, installed a recording studio there, where Pink Floyd once recorded tracks for 1979’s The Wall. The studio has also been used by Sting.
Miraval’s property includes a 160-acre valley with ideal grape-growing conditions. White wines produced there traditionally come under the Coteaux Varois appellation and red, white and rosé wines fall under the Côtes de Provence appellation. It also produces a Pink Floyd rosé, named for its illustrious musical heritage.
“The terroir, the freshness that comes from the altitude, and the exposition of the vines are all incredible,” Marc Perrin, who co-owns Beaucastel with his brother Pierre, tells Decantur. “For us as winemakers, it’s a wonderful opportunity to work with grapes that we know well, in an environment where striving for quality is the most important thing.”
The first wine from the partnership, a rosé, will be available in March. White wines will be ready this summer.
