Space epic Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt, will open in theaters on Jan. 11, 2019, New Regency and 20th Century Fox announced Thursday.
James Gray’s upcoming sci-fi epic is described as an adventure film about one man’s journey across a lawless and unforgiving solar system to find his missing father, a renegade scientist who poses a threat to all of mankind. Ruth Negga, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland will star opposite Pitt.
Gray wrote the script with Ethan Gross.
Ad Astra continues a string of successful film partnerships between New Regency and Brad Pitt’s production banner Plan B, including the Oscar-nominated The Big Short and Oscar winner 12 Years a Slave, as well as director Ryan Coogler’s upcoming feature Wrong Answer, written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and starring Michael B. Jordan.
So far, Ad Astra has the Jan. 11-13, 2019, weekend to itself.
New Regency and Fox are co-financing the film in association with China’s Bona Film Investment.
