Getty ImagesLONDON — Veteran British actor of stage and screen Bernard Hill will make his directorial debut with the U.S. indie project Sound the Crossing, written by U.S. veteran and writer Rich DeBaun.
Billed as a character-driven drama that bucks stereotypes and expectation, DeBaun’s story is set in Louisiana and details the story of a callow, wisecracking rookie soldier who has never seen war and discovers the pain of deceit through his ill-fated actions.
Hill, whose big-screen acting resume boasts work with James Cameron in Titanic and CIint Eastwood in True Crime, was sent the script by producers Chris Johnson and Winship Cook.
“Reading the script — it came alive very easily in my mind; I had such a strong reaction to the story and the characters. For the first time, I responded to a script overall rather than to just a single character,” said Hill, describing his move into the director’s seat as an “exciting step” for the actor.
Cook noted that Hill’s “vast experience being in front of the camera” will give the project’s yet-to-be-recruited cast “a collaborative advocate who will be supportive in the creative journey.”
Hill is repped by the U.K.’s Artists Right Group and L.A.-based Optimism Entertainment.
