Winkless, who also was the puppeteer for the Crypt Keeper in Tales From the Crypt, died July 18 in Los Angeles of complications from a longtime neurological condition.
His credits as a puppeteer include the Child’s Play films — Child’s Play (1988), Child’s Play 2 (1990), Child’s Play 3 (1991) and Bride of Chucky (1998) — as well as Honey I Blew Up the Kid (1992), Death Becomes Her (1992), Man’s Best Friend (1993), Congo (1995), The X-Files (1998) and Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001). In addition to the TV show, Winkless was the puppeteer for the Crypt Keeper in the films Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight (1995) and Casper (1995).
Winkless also worked in special effects on several films, including Meet the Applegates (1990), Alien 3 (1992) and Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995). He worked in the mechanical department for James Cameron‘s 1991 hit film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Makeup artist Kevin Yagher, who worked with Winkless on Honey I Blew Up the Kid, said, “Not only a man of many talents, he was a soft-spoken, thoughtful and gentle human being with a unique sense of humor. It was simply my utmost pleasure and an absolute honor to know him.”
A Facebook page, For the Love of Brock, has been created to share memories of the puppeteer.
