"The Hunger Games'" Elizabeth Banks (UTA, Untitled, Ziffren Brittenham) will return to NBC's "30 Rock," playing Alec Baldwin's journalist wife, who was detained in North Korea and forced to marry the nation's dictator.
CANNES — Elizabeth Banks has signed up for writer-producer Alan Ball’s dark comedy What’s the Matter With Margie?, which Myriad Pictures is launching at the Marche du Film this week.
Daniel Minahan will direct from Ball’s original script and is set to start shooting in early 2013 in Los Angeles.
Myriad has acquired all rights outside the U.S. and Canada, with production set to start shooting in early 2013 in Los Angeles. Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is producing with Ball.

In the film, Banks will play a downtrodden officer worker who, after years of being stepped on by her colleagues, finally snaps and resorts to murder as a solution to her problems.
“What’s the Matter With Margie? is first and foremost a great script. It is very funny and dark and brilliant in the way that only Alan Ball can write. I look forward to seeing the story come to life on screen. We are excited to be working with Alan and Dan; this is a fabulous role that we know Liz Banks will knock out of the park,” Myriad CEO Kirk D’Amico said.
UTA Independent Film Group packaged the film and is arranging financing, as well as representing North American rights.
Myriad’s director of production and acquisitions Ari Haas brought the film to Myriad. The deal was negotiated by Senior Vice President of Business Affairs David Ducar for Myriad and UTA Independent on behalf of the filmmaker and producers.
Ball (American Beauty) is the creator and executive producer of HBO hit series True Blood. He also created HBO’s Six Feet Under.
Banks is represented by UTA and Untitled Entertainment.
Myriad’s Cannes slate includes Inescapable, starring Marisa Tomei, Josh Jackson and Alexander Siddig, A Common Man, starring Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross, among others.
