Ben Zeitlin’s Beasts of the Southern Wild, a grand jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival, has become a winner at the Cannes Film Festival, where it screened as part of the Un Certain Regard sidebar.

FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics, named the film, which Fox Searchlight is releasing stateside, best film in the sidebar, and it has also received an Ecumenical Jury mention.
The critics’ group also handed out awards to Sergei Loznitsa’s In the Fog, which played in the main Competition, and Rachad Djaidani’s Hold Back, which played the Directors’ Fortnight.
The Eucumenical Jury gave its award to Thomas Vinterberg’s The Hunt, which played in the Competition, while bestowing a special mention on Beasts.
