Korean director Hong Sang-soo’s first film in Cannes stars 2009 Jury president Isabelle Huppert in a triple role as three identically named French tourists who each visits the same seaside resort.
COLOGNE, Germany – Korean sales group Finecut has racked up multiple deals for its Cannes Competition entry In Another Country, including the U.S., where Kino Lorber has taken all rights.
The comic drama unites French and Asian art house with Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo directing French actress and two-time Cannes best actress winner Isabelle Huppert in a triple role as three very different women all named Anne visiting a Korean seaside resort.
“I have been a long-time follower of Hong Sangsoo’s career,” said Kino Lorber CEO Richard Lorber. “And I believe In Another Country is a breakthrough film for him; it will please both his core art house base and attract new film lovers open to uniquely original cinema that balances heart and mind with refreshing visual style.”
In addition to the U.S., Finecut signed deals for the film in Japan (Bitters End), Spain (Golem Distribucion), Brazil (Providence Filmes), Mexico (Mantarraya Producciones) and Greece/Cyprus (Strada Filmes).
Finecut said it is in negotiations on several territories and expects to close deals soon with, among others, Benelux and Argentina.
Diaphana Distribution picked up In Another Country for France and will bow the film theatrically this October.
