Los Angeles-based sales company Recreation and Salt Lake City’s Incentive Capital have teamed to acquire international rights to Spike Lee’s Red Hook Summer.
The film will be screened privately for select international distributers at the upcoming Cannes film market.
The pact further solidifies the relationship between Incentive and Recreation following their deal to collaborate on the international distribution of Incentive’s 850-title library.
STORY: Spike Lee Partnering with Variance to Distribute Red Hook Summer independently
Red Hook is the latest installment in Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn film series and is about a teenage boy who is sent to New York to spend the summer with his grandfather, whom he’s never met before.
The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, stars teen newcomers Jules Brown and Tony Lysaith, along with Clarke Peters and Nate Parker. Lee also is featured in the film, reprising his role as Mookie from Do the Right Thing.
Variance Films has acquired domestic rights to Red Hook, which was produced by Lee’s company 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.
