GOA, India – India will be the guest country at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, the third country after Egypt (2011) and Brazil (2012) to be given a special spotlight.
The Cannes focus will coincide with Indian cinema’s celebration of its 100th anniversary next year.
The announcement was made on behalf of Cannes general delegate Thierry Fremaux by Cannes film department director Christian Jeune at the Film Bazaar market here.
The four-day event is organized by India’s National Film Development Corporation and concludes Saturday. Including production and scriptwriting workshops with mentoring sessions, Film Bazaar is being held alongside the International Film Festival of India, which runs Nov. 20-30.
Jeune read out a statement by Fremaux on Friday. ,The Festival de Cannes has chosen NFDC Film Bazaar 2012 to announce its plans to welcome a large delegation from the Indian Film industry to Cannes to celebrate hundred years since the birth of Indian Cinema ” it said. ” The Festival de Cannes is delighted to celebrate one of the most important countries in the world of cinema, a country with a prestigious history and tradition, one whose current day and creative impulses are a perennial example of vitality.”
