Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has snapped up rights to Miles Teller‘s boxing biopic Bleed for This in a number of key foreign markets.
The Solution Entertainment Group has sold Bleed for This to Sony’s international arm in Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Benelux, Scandinavia, Australia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Greece and South Africa. Additionally, The Solution says the film is now sold out around the world to various independent distributors.
Teller (Whiplash) stars as boxing legend Vinny Pazienza in Bleed for This, while Aaron Eckhart plays his coach. Ben Younger (Boiler Room) directed.
“The film features an incredible performance from Miles Teller who completely transforms himself into the character of legendary boxer Vinny Pazienza and will blow audiences away with this role,” said The Solution’s Lisa Wilson.
The Solution has been shopping Bleed for This to foreign buyers at the Cannes film market, where CAA and WME showed 12 minutes of footage to U.S. buyers on May 15, sparking keen interest. Within 24 hours, Open Road Films closed a $4 million deal for U.S. rights to the film, which is tipped to get an awards run this fall.
Pazienza rocketed to fame when he overwhelmed undefeated champion Gilbert Dale in 1991, but his career in the ring was cut short when a near-fatal car accident meant he might never walk again.
