Adele Exarchopoulos, part of the Blue is the Warmest Color trio of director Abdellatif Kechiche and co-star Lea Seydoux that won an historical joint Palme d’Or last year, will turn heads and likely conjure press interest on her return to the Croisette with her turn in Que Vive, directed by Marianne Tardieu.
The movieis set to unspool as one of nine titles in this year’s L’Acid, an unofficial sidebar of movies which is run in parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. The sidebar mostly focuses on French films, and aims to give them an international stage when all the world’s film press is in town, as well as secure international distribution.
Reda Kateb (Zero Dark Thirty) also stars alongside Exarchopoulos in Tardieu’s family drama.
Other films set to unspool in the sidebar include new features by Petr Vaclav, whose movie Marian won the Silver Leopard in Locarno in 1996 and Aurelia Georges whose The Walking Man played San Sebastian Film Festival in 2007.
Vaclav will hit the Croisette with Cesta Ven, a drama about a couple of young gypsies trying to out down roots while Georges brings La Fille et Le Fleuve about love, life and death to Cannes.
The indie organization has been growing its Cannes program in recent years with the help of French organizations the National Cinema Center (CNC) and the Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD).
