Common has signed on to star in Saint Judy, joining Michelle Monaghan and Alfred Molina.
The biopic is based on the true story of Judy Wood (Monaghan), a single mother who moves to Los Angeles to work in immigration law and brings a case before the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit that changed national asylum law for female refugees.
Sean Hanish (Return to Zero) is directing the project, which is currently shooting. Dmitry Portnoy wrote the script.
UTA Independent Film Group is handling U.S. rights for Saint Judy in Cannes.
Common, who won an Oscar for his original song for Selma, was recently seen in John Wick: Chapter 2 and Suicide Squad. His upcoming projects include Hunter Killer with Gerard Butler, and he is attached to the thriller Quick Draw. Common is repped by CAA and Oasis Entertainment Management Group.
