CANNES – Constantin Film have boarded F— You, Göthe, the new culture clash comedy from writer/director Bora Dagtekin, whose German-language rom-com Turkish for Beginners was a huge local hit.
While Turkish for Beginners was set on a deserted island and traced the unexpected romance between a German feminist and a Turkish macho man, Göthe will be a high-school comedy and focus on the struggles between teachers and students. The title refers to a pupil’s disgusted outburst when forced to read the work of German romantic poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a stable of the German high school curriculum.
The film is expected to follow Turkish for Beginners‘ formula of mixing politically incorrect comedy with teen romance. It proved a successful mix for Turkish For Beginners, which has grossed some $21.5 million in Germany so far, making it the most successful local-language film in the territory this year.
Dagtekin is currently polishing the script for Göthe, with casting expected this summer. Constantin expects to begin shooting this Fall for an early 2013 release, similar to that of Turkish for Beginners.
