Dev Patel will star in The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan for producers Edward R. Pressman and Prashita Chaudhary of Cinemorphic Entertainment Company.
Patel, star of Slumdog Millionaire and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, will portray the mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, who was plucked from obscurity in Edwardian India and brought to the University of Cambridge.

Matthew Brown, who wrote the screenplay based on Robert Kanigel’s book of the same name, will direct. Brown also wrote London Town, to be produced by Sofia Sondervan and Killer Films and set to star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Principal photography is expected to begin in the U.K. and India in the fall.
In addition to Pressman and Chaudhary, Jim Young also will produce under his Animus Films banner along with Sondervan of Dutch Tilt Film. Pressman’s COO Jon Katz will serve as executive producer along with Tristine Skyler, Xeigeist’s Joe Thomas, Pamela Godfrey and Mark Montgomery. Tayab Madni will serve as an associate producer.
“I am always impressed when a young filmmaker comes to me with a deep passion to make a film, and Matthew has shown a real fire to tell this story. We’re excited to have Dev onboard to bring Ramanujan to the screen,” Pressman said.
New to the international film world, Chaudhary, who co-produced The Congress, which opened the Directors’ Fortnight, said, “Ramanujan is a legend in India, and so to be able to team with such an experienced producer as Edward R. Pressman on this film is exactly the kind of opportunity I’ve been waiting for.”
Patel, repped by UTA, Curtis Brown Group, Magnolia Entertainment and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler & Feldman, currently appears on HBO’s The Newsroom.
