British distributor Dogwoof has taken all U.K. rights for Concerning Violence, the new documentary from Black Power Mixtape director Goran Hugo Olsson, from Berlin-based sales company Films Boutique.
Singer Lauryn Hill narrates the new film, which looks at the African liberation struggles of the 1960s and 1970s. The documentary takes its lead from the book The Wretched of the Earth by philosopher Frantz Fanon, considered a seminal work on anti-colonialism. Dogwoof is planning a late autumn theatrical release for the title.
“Concerning Violence is a completely unique piece of filmmaking, and it is fantastic to work with one of the most exciting documentary filmmakers today in Goran Hugo Olsson,” said Dogwoof exec Oli Harbottle. “We are confident the film will continue to have a long shelf life far beyond our autumn scheduled release.”
Black Power Mixtape won the world cinema documentary film editing award at Sundance in 2011 and best editing and best music honors at Sweden’s Guldbagge awards, the local equivalent of the Oscars.
