Canadian distribution company Elevation Pictures has signed a multiyear slate co-financing deal with Anton Corp. It will cover Elevation’s entire slate of 20-25 films per year.
Elevation, which was launched by Teddy Schwarzman just two years ago, has output deals with Schwarzman’s Black Bear Pictures, Bleecker Street Films and Bold Films.
Anton will participate in such upcoming Elevation films as Gary Ross’ Free State of Jones, starring Matthew McConaughey; John Lee Hancock’s The Founder with Michael Keaton; Oliver Stone’s Snowden; and Stephen Gaghan’s Gold, which was produced and financed by Black Bear.
Founded by Sebastien Raybaud, Anton Corp. introduced the film slate co-financing model in Europe in 2011 by partnering with StudioCanal and has since co-financed more than 160 films, including Paddington, Non-Stop, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Shaun the Sheep Movie. In January, Harold van Lier joined the company as a partner.
“We are thrilled to partner with Anton and work with Sebastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier to continue to build our slate of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films,” Elevation co-presidents Laurie May and Noah Segal said Tuesday in a statement. “This collaboration, including some films to be brought by Anton, as well as Canadian co-productions, will elevate our slate to the next level.”
Added Reybaud: “This collaboration with the excellent team at Elevation Pictures and Teddy Schwarzman’s Black Bear Pictures marks a new strategic chapter in our expansion plans. We are very proud to be in business with them and look forward to seeing them become an even stronger player in Canada.”
