As Anastasia Steele might say, “Oh, my.”
Marlon Wayans and producer-writer Rick Alvarez are tackling the Fifty Shades of Grey phenomenon with the comedy spoof Fifty Shades of Black.
IM Global, a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Reliance ADA, is fully financing the film, which reunites the team behind the Haunted House franchise, including director Michael Tiddes. The project will be introduced to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins next week.
Wayans will star and write with Alvarez, with production to begin shortly, according to IM Global founder and CEO Stuart Ford. IM Global is planning an early 2016 release.
Ford is producing alongside Wayans and Alvarez. IM Global’s Matt Jackson and Glendon Palmer are executive producing.
“We’re excited to pair up once again with Marlon, Rick and Mike on Fifty Shades of Black, and we look forward to together creating another wholesome slice of entertainment for all the family.”
Added Wayans: “We’re excited to be back in business with IM Global doing our comedic remix of this movie. Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I’m looking forward to having fun with this project. It’s amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I’m really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional.”
