Hailee Steinfeld will star in Gold Circle’s YA adaptation Break My Heart 1,000 Times, which Scott Speer will direct.
Jason Fuchs adapted the story for the screen based on Daniel Waters‘ supernatural romantic thriller. The story centers on a cataclysmic event that has torn the barrier between our world and the next, leaving “Remnants,” ghost-like essences of the deceased, part of everyday life. After years of quiet coexistence with the living, a Remnant sends a threatening message to a young girl, propelling her on a mission with consequences that will forever change the course of her life.
There’s a possibility that the film could be the beginning of a new franchise.
Paul Brooks is producing with Scott Niemeyer, Brad Kessell and Fuchs executive producing. Good Universe will handle international sales, bringing it to the Cannes market.
Steinfeld will next be seen at the newest Barden Bella in Universal and Gold Circle’s sequel Pitch Perfect 2, out May 15. Her other recent projects include A24’s Barely Lethal, and she’ll soon start filming indie Carrie Pilby. She’s repped by Coast to Coast Talent Group and ICM Partners.
Speer made his feature directorial debut with Step Up Revolution and has directed episodes of MTV’s Finding Carter series. Also an author, he wrote the Immortal City trilogy of YA novels. He’s repped by WME and Principato Young Entertainment.
Fuchs wrote the script for animation tentpole Ice Age: Continental Drift and the script for Warner Bros.’ upcoming Pan, starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Joe Wright. He’s currently writing DC Comics’ Wonder Woman, also for Warner Bros. He‘s repped by WME, Brookside Artist Management and Bloom Hergott.
