On May 17, the 68th Cannes Film Festival will partner with luxury goods giant Kering to honor three outstanding female filmmakers for their contributions to the world of cinema at a Presidential Dinner.
Two-time Oscar-winner Jane Fonda will receive a special “Women in Motion” honor award, recognizing the philanthropist’s professional achievements and commitment to peace, women and equality.
Megan Ellison, founder of Annapurna Pictures and producer of numerous significant films including the Oscar-nominated Zero Dark Thirty, American Hustle and Foxcatcher, will receive an honorary award for her pioneering career and its impact on American cinema.

The presidential dinner also will pay a special tribute to legendary Oscar-winning actress Olivia de Havilland, the first woman ever to serve as president of the Cannes Film Festival jury in 1965.
Fonda and Ellison will receive their awards at the dinner from co-hosts Pierre Lescure, president of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the fest, and François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering.
Sunday’s event also will mark the launch of Kering’s “Women in Motion” initiative at the Cannes fest, a program intended to celebrate and recognize women and their contributions to film. In 2016, “Women in Motion” will present two awards: one that recognizes a remarkable contribution to women’s causes and a second that honors a young and talented female filmmaker.
The Hollywood Reporter is partnering with Kering to host a series of “Women in Motion” talks at this year’s festival. These one-hour conversations, each to be moderated by a top THR editor, will welcome Salma Hayek, Isabella Rossellini, Frances McDormand, Iranian actress-singer Golshifteh Farahani, producer Christine Vachon and French writer and director Claire Denis to participate in a discussion of women’s contributions to film and their representation on both sides of the screen.
The “Women in Motion” talks will air on THR.com and on Kering’s digital platform.
