John Cusack is in negotiations to play a man desperately in need of money in chase thriller Misfortune.
Cusack will star as Miller, a businessman who, after embezzling a client’s money, leaves everything behind, including his family, to start a new life. Everything goes according to plan until he is separated from his cash in the middle of the wilderness, where three young friends stumble upon it. Miller, desperate and violent, will do anything to get it back.
Lucky McKee (All Cheerleaders Die) will direct the taut thriller based on a screenplay by Jared Butler and Lars Norberg. Lee Nelson and David Buelow of Envision Media Arts will produce.
The film is the latest addition to Radiant’s busy Cannes slate, and the company is selling international rights on the ground at the festival.
“We are thrilled to be working with a talent such as John Cusack. He is perfect for the role of a white-collar businessman so consumed by greed he trails off the beaten path of morality,” said Radiant Films International president and CEO Mimi Steinbauer. “Cusack, combined with Lucky’s knack for suspense, gives the film all the ingredients it needs for a chilling thriller. The buyers already love it.”
Cusack’s recent films include his highly praised performance as Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy, along with appearing in Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq. He’ll also star opposite Samuel L. Jackson in thriller Cell. Cusack is repped by ICM Partners and Ziffren Brittenham.
