The partnership between Cannes’ Marche du Film and Latin American film market Ventana Sur is being renewed for three more years.
Cannes film festival artistic boss Thierry Fremaux shared the news Sunday at the Palais du Festival with Ralph Haiek, new head of the Argentine film institute (INCAA).
“This is such a thrilling adventure, and we are going to continue with it,” said Fremaux, who called Ventana Sur a “shared merit” and “one of the finest film markets in the world.”
Created in 2009, Ventana Sur is a joint venture organized by Bernardo Bergeret, head of international affairs at INCAA, and Marche du Film’s director Jerome Paillard.

Held in Buenos Aires in early December, Ventana Sur aims to match Latin American film projects with European and U.S. co-producers, display the region’s latest titles to distributors and sales agents, promote the remake-rights business and, most recently, boost booming genre-cinema scene through its Blood Window sidebar.
The announcement comes after recent doubts within the Argentine industry about the future of Ventana Sur, following a media frenzy around the use of INCAA funds and an alleged attempt to cut the institute’s budget and film production subsidies, a backbone of Argentina’s filmmaking industry.
Last month, former INCAA president Alejandro Cacetta resigned amid allegations of corruption, which were later toned down by the government. The scandal triggered widespread support of Cacetta by most of Argentina’s film associations and professionals, including Argentine-bred actor Viggo Mortensen, who slammed the government in a video posted by the local actors guild.
Last week, the newly appointed Haiek publicly assured he would guarantee that the funding will be untouched and properly managed.
