The International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci) awarded its prizes at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
Competition film Son of Saul, Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes‘ first feature, earned a Fipresci nod. The Holocaust drama, which received strong reviews, tells the story of the Sonderkommando, the Jewish prisoners who were forced to help the Nazis run the concentration camps.

The critics also honored Masaan, which screened in Un Certain Regard. Neeraj Ghaywa’s film follows a group of people living in Benares, the holy city on the banks of the Ganges, which reserves a cruel punishment for those who play with moral traditions.
Paulina, the film that won the top honor of the Critics’ Week section on Friday, was also awarded a nod from Fipresci.
Argentinean director Santiago Mitre‘s drama centers on a socially conscious woman who abandons a law career to teach young kids in a school in Argentina. When she arrives, she is violently attacked by a gang of young people, some of them being her own students.
The top prizes for the main selection will be awarded on Sunday night during the closing ceremony at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Jury presidents Joel and Ethan Coen will announce the winners.
