Teresa Palmer has become entangled in The Twisted.
The Warm Bodies star will head up the cast of the sci-fi thriller, which marks the first project from the newly launched “Ridley Scott Presents … ” genre label.
Based on true events, the story centers on a child psychologist with a haunted past (Palmer) who is dispatched to an isolated orphanage to investigate a group of children who start exhibiting peculiar symptoms following an extraterrestrial encounter.
Olatunde Osunsanmi, who directed Universal’s The Fourth Kind and whose TV credits include TNT’s Falling Skies and Fox’s Minority Report, will helm The Twisted from a script written by Ari Schlossberg (Hide and Seek) and Natasha Pincus.
Verve Ventures, the international sales arm of boutique lit and talent agency Verve, is shopping the project at the Cannes market. Amy Beecroft, who joined Verve last year, packaged the film and will oversee sales.
Now that Scott has found his star in Palmer, the project will begin production on June 15.
Scott is producing the film with wife Giannina Scott and Colet Abedi. The project was developed by Giannina Scott and Abedi for the Scotts’ Cara Films. PalmStar Media, the company behind Mother’s Day and Sing Street, has boarded The Twisted in a financing capacity, and the company’s Kevin Frakes and Mark Fasano also are producing.
Palmer is known for starring roles in Point Break and supporting turns in John Hillcoat’s Triple 9 and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups. The Australian actress next will be seen in Warner Bros.’ Lights Out on July 22 and Mel Gibson’s upcoming drama Hacksaw Ridge for Summit Entertainment.
She is repped by WME, Management 360 and Sloane, Offer.
