Cannes: THR and Jimmy Choo Honor Fan Bingbing at Martinez Fete (Video)

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing didn’t let wet weather dampen her spirits at a cocktail party in her honor hosted by The Hollywood Reporter, Jimmy Choo and Mouton Cadet at the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez where the star and global style icon was presented with THR‘s first ever International Artist of the Year award. The event, originally planned for the Mouton Cadet Wine Bar atop the Palais des Festivals, was moved indoors due to the heavy rain that plagued Cannes all of Saturday.

Attendees including actors Naomie Harris, Paz Vega and Oscar Isaac and filmmakers James Toback, McG and Gurinder Chadha mingled with international industry executives in the hotel’s Acajou 1 ballroom, trading war stories about dealing with the weather and discussing the wide variety of films that are featured in this year’s lineup.

The private event, co-hosted by THR editorial director Janice Min, publisher Lynne Segall and Jimmy Choo CEO Pierre Denis, honored Fan, who is slated to co-star in Bryan Singer’s X Men: Days of Future Past and Skiptrace with Jackie Chan, with the award, which recognizes a rising global celebrity whose work has the power to affect entertainment around the world.

Fan, who has emerged as a leading international fashion icon as her global acting career has exploded, wore a stunning Valentino gown to the event, telling THR, “I feel like Cinderella tonight.”

“It’s every girl’s dream to wear these designer clothes,” she added. “But even though I love fashion, the most important thing to me is my acting career.”

Harris, who starred in the James Bond pic Skyfall, met Fan for the first time, posing for photos during the event, which was sponsored by Jimmy Choo and Mouton Cadet, with Hugues Lechanoine, CEO at Baron Philippe de Rothschild, in attendance.

Also dressed in Valentino, Harris shared her impressions of Cannes as a first-time festival attendee: “It’s absolutely fabulous. It’s the most glamorous festival that I’ve ever been to,” she said.

Among the other partygoers were Sierra/Affinity CEO Nick Meyer, Roadside Attractions co-presidents Eric D’Arbeloff and Howard Cohen, IM Global’s Stuart Ford, CBS Films co-president Terry Press, Commotion Pictures chairman and CEO Steve Stabler, DreamWorks head of publicity Chip Sullivan, The Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk and producer Cristiano De Masi.

Toback, who brought Tyson to Cannes in 2012, flew in on Saturday afternoon for this year’s fest. His Mike Tyson doc received the Regard Knockout Award at the Un Certain Regard section last year, so the filmmaker was happy to return for the 2013 event, he told THR.

His latest project, Seduced and Abandoned, will play on Monday. Starring Alec Baldwin, the film was shot at the 2013 festival, and features portraits of filmmakers including Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Polanski, Martin Scorsese and Bernardo Bertolucci.

Toback told THR that he first came to the south of France at a very young age with his family, and that after a long period of absence, he’s been happy to return for the film industry’s most glamorous global festival: “My last two experiences have been so positive.”
