Apparently, there’s a way out of choosing sides in Captain America: Civil War: merely take a side street, and avoid the entire thing — at least, that’s the lesson from “The Chase,” an Audi promotional tie-in to the next big Marvel movie directed by Civil War‘s Anthony and Joe Russo.
Intercut with previously unreleased scenes from the movie — featuring Captain America (Chris Evans) chasing Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), who is himself chasing the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) through traffic — the short features an unsuspecting family who find their car in the middle of events without realizing it.
In a statement released by Audi, Civil War co-director Anthony Russo said that Marvel is “always trying to ride the line in these movies between something that is set in our real, present day world, but at the same time feels special and forward thinking — just a little out of reach. So to be able to work with a company like Audi and have access to their current models and their most advanced designs, it helps us strike that right balance between real world and the future.”
The short was released to promote Audi’s partnership with Marvel Studios, which will see both sides of Civil War‘s primary conflict driving the German auto-manufacturer’s product. (Iron Man will be driving an Audi R8 v10 plus Coupe, while Captain America will be seen in the Audi SQ7, the same model as driven by the family in “The Chase.”) It’s good to know that, even when hero turns against hero, everyone can agree on at least one thing, even if that one thing is the importance of product placement in modern blockbuster movie franchises.
Captain America: Civil War will be released May 6.
