Picking up from the post-credit sequence of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Entertainment in November is going to tease more about the background of next year’s Captain Marvel movie with a special comic book prologue featuring…Nick Fury?
As revealed in the official solicitations for its comic book product for November — released Tuesday by the company — Marvel will be releasing a 32-page one-shot titled Marvel’s Captain Marvel Prelude, written by Will Corona Pilgrim, with art by Andrea Di Vito, on Nov. 14.
The official solicit text for the issue reads, “Before CAROL DANVERS takes flight in 2019’s first Marvel Studios film, immerse yourself in this all-new adventure! Spinning out of the mysterious events of Avengers: Infinity War, NICK FURY and MARIA HILL set off on life-or-death missions that lead directly to the appearance of CAPTAIN MARVEL!”
This is far from the first time that Marvel has supported upcoming movie releases with comic book prologues, with all of its releases in recent years receiving them — all of which were written by Pilgrim, who, not so coincidentally, also happens to be creative director, research and development at Marvel Studios.
That Nick Fury and Maria Hill are, in some way, connected to Carol Danvers’ Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering that the first hint of Captain Marvel onscreen in the MCU came when Fury apparently tried to call her before crumbling into dust because of Thanos’ cosmic fingersnap. Just what will be revealed in the Prelude, however — and how much it actually explains about Captain Marvel’s link to SHIELD’s top operative — will remain unclear for a few months yet.
