Catherine Deneuve will add to an already overcrowded awards cabinet when she attends the Dubai International Film Festival later this month.
According to an announcement made Wednesday, French cinema’s grande dame is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Middle East event in recognition of a career spanning almost six decades and more than 120 films. The news comes just days after the actress was honored with a similar prize at Turkey’s Antalya Film Festival.
“I have been lucky enough to work all over the world and to have my work recognized here in the Middle East as well is testament to the cross-cultural and universal appeal of film,” said Deneuve, whose movie La Tete Haute opened this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Added Dubai festival chairman Abdulhamid Juma: “Catherine Deneuve is an icon and one of the most influential women in cinema. Her contribution to film across the globe has been phenomenal, and we are proud to be honoring her incredible talents at the festival this year.”
Previous DIFF honorees include Oliver Stone, Shah Rukh Khan, Sean Penn and the late Omar Sharif, who received the fest’s first-ever lifetime achievement award in 2004.
The Dubai International Film Festival is set to run Dec. 9-16.
