While walking the red carpet at the premiere of Marvel’s Black Panther, the man behind the superhero, Chadwick Boseman, had nothing but praise for his director, Ryan Coogler.
“He’s a great director, and he does what’s true to him,” Boseman told The Hollywood Reporter. “He picks projects that are true to him, that are soulful to him, and you can’t go wrong when you do that.”
He continued, “You trust what he’s saying because he lives it, he’s dreaming about it and he’s willing to put himself through sickness in order to get the right things on the screen.”
With the expected success of films with black casts like Black Panther, Boseman hopes for change for African Americans in the industry and in society but says it’s hard to predict. “I hope people will watch this movie and see the hero in themselves. Even if it’s a white person who sees it. If they can see this black character and identify with them, it changes a little bit about how our society is, so I hope so.”
