Charles King has bolstered the executive ranks of his new media company, announcing Monday that he has hired Imagine Entertainment veteran Kim Roth as president of production.
In her new role, Roth will oversee Macro’s slate of film and television projects, which include an untitled musical from Justin Simien (Dear White People).
King, a former partner at WME who struck out on his own earlier this year, described Roth in a statement as “hands down, one of the top producers working today,” adding that “it’s safe to say that her vast experience and her amazing skill at managing people and productions, both large and small, are unmatched in this business. These skills, combined with her passion for universally-themed stories and her exceptional ability to connect with all types of people, makes her a perfect fit for MACRO.”

Roth has spent the last 16 years of her career at Imagine, where she most recently served as president of production. She recently produced Tom Cruise spy drama Mena, set for a 2017 release. She is also an executive producer on Lowriders, starring Eva Longoria and Demian Bichir and is currently in post-production, and Love the Coopers starring Diane Keaton, Alan Arkin, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde, which hits theaters Nov. 13. Her other credits include Tower Heist, The Good Lie and Inside Man.
“I am profoundly honored to join Charles and Macro,” said Roth. “Throughout my career I have held a deep admiration for Charles and now I look forward to working with him to produce passionate, provocative and impactful entertainment that speaks to and about our multicultural society. I couldn’t be more excited and inspired to be with his company.”
King founded Macro in January of this year to produce multi-platform projects aimed at multicultural audiences. He staffed up in late January with CFO Ronald Hohauser, senior vp development and production Poppy Hanks and vp digital and business development Michael Palank. In addition to the Simien project, Macro also has projects in development from Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow).
