Mark Gao‘s Shanghai-based production and sales outfit, Fundamental Films, one of China’s leading distributors, has unveiled a slate of 15 films for 2015 and 2016 and said it plans a total investment of $320 million in the period.
The slate announcement comes after Fundamental Films, which collaborates on a number of projects with Luc Besson‘s EuropaCorp, said earlier this week it was planning to raise $60.63 million through a capital raise to fund film productions.
“Chinese films are about to usher in a new period of development. As a young content provider and film distributor, after six years of development and exploration in overseas market, Fundamental Films hopes to use its accumulated experience of international cooperation to contribute to the internationalization of Chinese films,” said Gao in a statement.
Cheng Jiaqi, Fundamental’s executive general manager, introduced the films, which include Taken 3 with Liam Neeson, due to be released in China on March 20, also in 3D, and The Transporter Legacy, directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions) with EuropaCorp, creator of the original franchise.

The slate features the fantasy movie The Warrior’s Gate, scripted by Besson, and The Drop, scripted by Jayson Rothwell, both of which will be co-productions, as well as Besson’s Sea at War project.
Fundamental is producing the Keanu Reeves starrer Replicas with Reeves, Stephen Hamel and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, and Mark Osbourne‘s The Little Prince.
Other projects include The Dragon Lady, a biopic of the first Chinese-American film star Anna May Wong, as well as a number of Chinese films.
Fundamental partnered with EuropaCorp on the release of Lucy. Last year, Fundamental opened offices in Los Angeles and hired Gary Glushon to run their U.S. operations.
