Chinese actor-director Jiang Wen, recently cast in Star Wars: Rogue One, is among the clients of David U. Lee‘s new boutique agency Leeding Management, which will aim to bridge talents between Hollywood and China.
Veteran producer and executive Steven Squillante, who has worked on A Haunted House, Revenge of the Green Dragons and Locke with Tom Hardy, and was formerly president of physical production at IM Global, will oversee day-to-day operations as partner and COO.
Leeding Management will be based in Beijing and Los Angeles.
Lee founded Leeding Media in 2008, and the company has marketed 12 feature films theatrically while controlling the exclusive digital distribution rights to 400 titles in China, including Million Dollar Baby, Whiplash, Nightcrawler and A Single Man, as well Insurgent, Ender’s Game, John Wick and Underworld. Last year, Leeding was involved in setting up Lionsgate Entertainment World, the subscription streaming service between Alibaba and Lionsgate.
“Since 2008, we’ve built Leeding Media into one of the premier film entertainment enterprises that bridge China and the West. With the addition of Steve and his invaluable resources to our team, I believe the company is well positioned to continue to be competitive into the future,” said Lee.
Squillante and Lee started their careers as interns at Miramax/Dimension Films in 1997.
Squillante said: “It is exciting to continue engaging in the challenges of the entirety of the filmmaking process, while also supporting and growing the careers of our multi-talented clients.”
