Broad Green Pictures is coming aboard to produce and finance Brain On Fire, a film based on Susannah Cahalan’s memoir Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness with Denver & Delilah and Foundation Features. Gerard Barrett (Glassland) will direct the feature, which will star Chloe Grace Moretz, Jenny Slate and Thomas Mann.
Moretz will play a journalist at The New York Post who mysteriously starts having seizures and hearing voices and rapidly descends into insanity.
Charlize Theron, A.J. Dix and Beth Kono of Denver & Delilah, and Rob Merilees and Lindsay Macadam of Foundation Features are producing the project, which will begin principal photography July 13 in Vancouver and is targeting a 2016 release.
Broad Green Pictures will distribute Brain on Fire in the United States, while the studio’s partner, Mister Smith Entertainment, will sell international rights, launching the film at the European Film Market in February. It will be the second collaboration between Broad Green and Mister Smith since Broad Green bought a 45 percent stake in Mister Smith in February. Previously, the two announced a partnership to bring Buena Vista Social Club – Adios, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated Buena Vista Social Club to theaters.
The deal was brokered on behalf of the filmmakers by WME Global, while Victor Moyers, president of production, and Chris Tricarico, EVP legal and business affairs, general counsel handled for Broad Green Pictures.
