Nolan will direct the movie, which he co-wrote with his brother Jonathan.
Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who use a wormhole to surpass the limits of human space travel and conquer vast distances on an interstellar voyage. The plot is believed to involve time travel and alternate dimensions, but other details are being kept under wraps.
The film features a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Matthew McConaughey, Michael Caine, Wes Bentley, Topher Grace, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, Ellen Burstyn and David Oyelowo, who also stars in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, in theaters Friday.
Oyelowo indicated he’d been sworn to secrecy about the production when The Hollywood Reporter asked him about it last week.
“If I told you anything about it, I think the ground underneath me would open up, and I’d be swallowed up,” Oyelowo joked before adding that he was glad he got the chance to work with one of the filmmakers on his list.
McConaughey was similarly tight-lipped when he confirmed his involvement with the film.
The movie’s being produced by Nolan’s wife and partner, Emma Thomas, under his Syncopy banner and Lynda Obst Productions. Hans Zimmer will compose the score.
The film will be shot on both 35 mm and Imax formats and will be released in Imax on Nov. 7, 2014. Paramount will distribute the film in the U.S. while Warner Bros. will handle the international rollout.
THR previously reported that Warner Bros. gave Paramount the right to co-finance the next Friday the 13th horror film and its portion of a future South Park movie in order to join the project. Warners will also let Paramount co-finance a to-be-determined A-list property as part of the deal.
