Oscar winner Christopher Plummer is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Canadian Screen Awards.
Plummer will be on hand to receive the honor at the country’s national film and TV awards on March 12 in Toronto, organizers said Tuesday.
“Christopher Plummer is one of the greatest actors of his generation who has delighted audiences with his iconic performances. We are elated to have him as this year’s distinct guest of honor,” Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television chair Martin Katz said of Plummer’s nearly 60-year career.
Plummer, who was raised in Montreal and launched his career on stage, has been acting in movies since getting a part in Sidney Lumet’s 1958 film Stage Struck. He won a best supporting actor Oscar in 2010 for his role in Beginners.
Plummer’s other movie credits include the 1965 Oscar winner The Sound of Music, The Man Who Would Be King, The Insider, A Beautiful Mind and Inside Man. His TV credits include The Thorn Birds and HBO’s Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight.
Plummer’s upcoming movies include David Leveaux’s World War II drama The Exception, playing opposite Lily James and Jai Courtney, and the role of Scrooge in The Man Who Invented Christmas, for Bharat Nalluri and Bleecker Street.
