The two star in writer-director Robert Edwards‘ When I Live My Life Over Again, which casts Heard as a struggling singer-songwriter who escapes to the Hamptons home of her father (Walken), an over-the-hill crooner desperately charting his own musical comeback.
The feature — with Oliver Platt, Ann Magnuson, Hamish Linklater, Henry Kelemen and Kelli Garner rounding out the cast — will make its world premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.
As the film explores topics of ambition and naivete, it also features musical performances by both Walken and Heard — a routine ask for the former, a seasoned theater performer. But Heard took singing lessons and learned how to play the piano and guitar to showcase the film’s original songs, with music by The Psychedelic Furs keyboardist Joe McGinty and lyrics by Edwards. The film’s team already is eyeing an awards push for the onscreen tracks.
